When this pub chain needed to upgrade their existing sewage treatment system due to expansion on site, they turned to EnSo. We understand that it is common for pubs to produce low flows but high organic strength waste and provided a robust solution
Plant Equipment: Ocean Special Nitrification Plant
Effluent target (BOD:Suspended Solids:Ammonia): 20:30:5
Daily flow m3/day): 15
Ammonia load (kg/day): 1.5
Situation and Problem
With 14 live-in staff and 1,000-covers per day this public house generates a large volume of wastewater from the kitchens and lavatories. Its location next to the River Wey Navigation requires effective and reliable treatment of the wastewater to avoid pollution issues.
The original plant comprised a rotating biological contactor (RBC) to process the wastewater, with a grease trap dealing with fat, oil and grease from the kitchens. The success of this pub meant that the existing equipment was no longer able to cope and consistently failed to meet with the required ammonia discharge consent.
The EnSo Solution
EnSo completed a thorough review of the site assets and specified the installation of a two-tank Ocean Nitrification system, operating in conjunction with the existing plant. Working with the specialist installer Affordable Drainage Ltd, the Ocean pods were installed downstream and reduced ammonia to the consented discharge levels.
EnSo provide a full servicing and maintenance service for this pub, including 24 hour telemetry coverage, on a quarterly basis. This involves checking all parts are functioning correctly, on both systems, and maintaining as necessary. All electrical components are tested and the final effluent is checked. EnSo are supervise the emptying of the tanks and maintain the grease traps onsite, which limits the fats, oils and grease entering the treatment plant.
