This original out of town shopping development was served by a dedicated wastewater treatment plant when first developed some five years ago. However, the existing plant had insufficient capacity to deal with the increased flow and loads produced from the planned drive-through fast food outlet, so a new dedicated sewage treatment works formed part of the new build.
The site offered various physical constraints with the only viable option for the positioning of the treatment works being below the car park. Similarly, there was a resistance to the use of a raw sewage pump station for the delivery of sewage to the treatment works so the sewer had to be gravitational which led to an inlet invert in excess of 2-metres, with treated effluent discharging direct to the site surface water drainage culvert.
This site will present high strength with low flow sewage typical of this type of establishment. Similarly, the typical high volumes of Fat, Oil & Grease will be kept to a minimum with proprietary dosing and screening equipment within the kitchen.
