Equine Veterinary Hospital, Hampshire (September 2005)

Design Data Plant Equipment Equine Veterinary Hospital completed installation
Daily flow (m3/day): 17.0 EnSo plant: Ocean 150/6
BOD load (kg/day): 9.0 Other: existing 16 m3 tank
Ammonia load (kg/day): 0.5
Effluent target:

Coupled with the sensitivity of effluent discharge to a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the site owner was faced with problems of rising BOD and NH3 levels in the discharge from the historic septic tank. The sensitivity of the site and its environs requires both secondary and tertiary treatment processes able to deal with the fluctuating flows and relatively high organic concentrations to achieve much stricter consent values imposed by the Environment Agency.

Equine Veterinary Hospital installation

EnSo International, together with John Reeves Waste Management, recently completed the installation and commissioning of a new wastewater treatment plant for this site.

As can be seen from the picture, the EnSo Ocean wastewater treatment system is in a modular form with a number of tanks located in series to form a hydraulic cascade, utilising various fixed film aeration tanks and settlement tanks located to suit the process.

During installation, the modules are simply positioned on a pre-prepared concrete base and backfilled with concrete using clean water to equalise the forces on the tanks.

  • Module 1 - additional primary settlement capacity
  • Module 2 - moving bed bioreactor (biozone 1)
  • Module 3 - submerged aerated filter (biozone 2)
  • Module 4 - intermediate humus settlement with sludge return
  • Module 5 - submerged aerated filter (biozone 3 - nitrification)
  • Module 6 - final clarification c/w upward flow clarifier
