    The Site

The care home was originally served by a competitor’s sewage treatment works. Due to site expansion, the owners decided it was crucial to install a new treatment plant able to cope with both current as well as future site development flows and loads.

EnSo International together with Aquatech Drainage Consultants Ltd and Glenross Construction, successfully completed the installation and commissioning of the new wastewater treatment plant. The system has been operational since April 2010 and the results from the final effluent samples are consistently within the required consent limits.

    Plant & Equipment

As evidenced from the photograph the design brief required a small footprint with minimum aesthetic impact and low noise production. With this in mind, the tanks were installed side by side with change of direction manholes at either end to allow the flow to cascade in series. The kiosk was lined with acoustic audio foam which successfully reduces noise nuisance from the air blowers, used to provide oxygen to the biological stages of the system.

    Process Description

Conventional Primary Settlement followed by Submerged Aerated Filtration (SAF) was employed to offer an efficient treatment process. As with most care home applications treatability of the sewage was monitored and tested prior to designing the treatment system. The electrical control panel includes a GSM telemetry system which sends text message alerts in the event of electrical failure.
